The losses of Ukraine during the Holodomor of 1932-1933 are comparable to the losses during the Second World War. These are pages of Ukrainian history that cannot be forgotten, as stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during events to commemorate the victims of famines in Ukraine.

"In our history there are pages that are very painful to remember, but which cannot be forgotten. Crimes that prove that cruelty and cynicism have no limits. Disasters that a normal person does not wish even to his enemies. These tragedies are so great that humanity has not yet invented words to describe the pain that Ukrainians experienced. Today we honor the memory of the victims of Holodomor - the crime of genocide committed by the totalitarian Stalinist regime against our people, the people of Ukraine," the president said.

Zelensky noted that today there is a lot of researches about the Holodomor, archival documents have been opened, dozens of books have been written, and many films have been shot.

According to him, judging from various studies, from 4 to 8 million Ukrainians died from the Holodomor of 1932-1933, which is comparable to the losses of Ukraine in World War II.

"We are Ukrainians. And we can do everything. But there are two things that we can never do. We can’t forget it. And we can’t forgive it," Zelensky said.
