The French National Assembly adopted a resolution recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. This was reported on the website of the lower house of parliament.
In the document, the French deputies condemn actions that are characterized as extermination and massive violations of human rights and freedoms.
“The recognition by the French Parliament of the Holodomor of 1932-33 as a genocide of the people of Ukraine is important and significant. I am grateful to France for its significant contribution to exposing the crimes of totalitarian Russia in the past and present, establishing truth, justice and, therefore, responsibility,” wrote President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Twitter.
The parliaments of Belgium, Ireland, Romania, Moldova, the Czech Republic, Germany and Iceland previously recognized the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. In 2018, the US Senate supported a resolution that also recognizes the Holodomor in Ukraine as genocide.
In December 2022, such a resolution was approved by the European Parliament. By the adopted document, the deputies expressed their solidarity with the people of Ukraine. It says that they pay tribute to those who died due to “the purposeful actions of the Stalinist regime to organize an artificial famine,” and also strongly condemn the actions of the totalitarian Soviet regime, which led to the death of millions of Ukrainians.

In Ukraine, the events of 1932-1933 are officially recognized as genocide. According to the Institute of the History of Ukraine, the losses from famine in the Ukrainian SSR amounted to almost 4 million people and another 3 million in other regions of the Union. The Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holodomor in Ukraine is celebrated on the fourth Saturday of November.
